The brown of this ale has a color a little lighter than a typical cola soda. It's bright and semi-translucent, as the entire contents of a pint can sit in a clear glass liter mug after decanting. The short-lived head was biege. It smells barley malt sweet with a little extra sweetness. The honey makes up a very little part of the overall taste, which means it's not too sweet. Unfortunately, it's far from the richest tasting Brown Ale made, so perhaps a little more honey would make an improvement. The roasted barley malt, with whatever hops are included, give this an unexpectedly shallow and bitter taste. The best Brown Ales include a rich and complex sweetness that's almost absent here. Compounding the one dimensional taste, the body runs negatively thin for the style. Almost no glass lacing can attest to that. At least it's not too sweet is the only backhanded compliment this can be given.
