Pours jet black, tan film for a head retains indefinitely.
Smells of cocoa, caramel, toffee, toasted bready malts, oak, and a dry wooden hoppiness.
Flavor is of cocoa, roasted coffee, licorice, vanilla, brown sugar, darkly toasted bread malts, and woody bitter hops. Hops are somewhat more pronounced than is typical with the style but still take a back seat to the malts and roast.
Body on the full side with tingly carbonation on the tongue.
Fantastic stout, lots of aroma and flavor and all of it good. Impressive range of flavors that all meld together nicely. Beautiful pour, the body is a tad less chewy than you would assume from what you see and smell. Definitely can't wait to have this again soon. I'd stand this up against some very highly regarded stouts like Founders Breakfast any day.
