Poured out of a 16 oz. can. Imperial stout with coffee, hazelnut, and vanilla.
Pours a viscous pitch black with a finger of mocha, reddish head.
Aroma slaps you in the face with coffee. Definitely a dark blend of coffee with some bitterness, almost like espresso. Rich amounts of hazelnut come through right behind the coffee. Sweet vanilla is there as well. Dark chocolate, brownie, and roasted malt come through too. Kind of smells like Nutella coffee is there was ever such a thing.
Taste follows the aroma well. Loads of dark roast, slightly bitter, coffee. Plenty of real hazelnut and the vanilla comes through a bit more than the aroma led me to believe. Lots of chocolate presence in the form of both dark and bittersweet chocolate chip. Getting lots of Nutella vibes. The beer is nicely balanced between the roast and bitter qualities from the malts/coffee and the sweetness of the vanilla.
Light full body. Dense, creamy, silky, sticky, oily.
Windmill continues to deliver quality stouts. Their "pastry" stouts tend to lean sweet as you would expect, but this one manages to have more balance with the dark blend of coffee. Well done.
