Brewed using the same grain bill and 5 hop schedule as its little brother BOGIE (only a boat load more). This American Style Double IPA is a beast. Deliciously huge piney and grapefruit citrus flavours, with enough booze and malt to provide a fair fight on balancing this epic ale.

Served in a pint glass from the cask.
An uninviting dull glass with a murky brown beverage. Zero head and almost no carbonation. This beer had no nose whatsoever and the only flavour presented itself after swallowing a dry harsh bitterness.

Its body is an attractive shade of honey amber. Slightly hazed with no visible carbonation. An inch of off white creamy head forms on top after a steady pour. It wastes no time thinning out to a ring sticking to the sides of the glass.
The nose is so juicy and so, so fruity. Ripe pineapple, green mango, and grapefruit pith come in heaps. Sticky, sappy pine lies in the background with a sturdy layer of caramel malt. Rounded, balanced, fresh, and juicy; just how I like my IPA's!
Its green grassy, leafy, piney hop character takes the wheel in the taste, imparting a clean and refined bitterness from beginning to end. Grapefruit rind is the dominant fruit quality throughout with pineapple coming in a flash at the beginning. Sweet, bready, caramel malt comes in light on its feet and moves into the finish.
This is a deceiving IPA. Its specs of 8% ABV and 90 IBU's are nowhere to be found in its ultra refined, clean, and dry body. A lick of sap and syrup adds some weight to it but it doesn't take away from its drinkability. This is dangerously, dangerously easy to drink.
I had no expectations going into this, not being familiar with this brewery, and what a beer it turned out to be. The real standouts in the IPA and IIPA style for me are the aroma of the beer and its feel. It did great on the aroma and rendered the feel exceptionally well. This is a double IPA that's defined by its refined, balanced, and clean qualities as opposed to an enamel stripping bitterness and I love it for that. Well done Calabogie!
