Hitting the style squarely on the head, Monnik's American pale ale is boastful with citrus fruit and with a balancing malt sweetness. Crisp & clean, Romulus is a session of brightness and beauty.
And that brightness starts with a glowing amber gold appearance, shockingly clear. Its cottony, creamy foam tops the glass like whipping cream. An orange perfume billows onto the nose with a candied scent followed by lemon, grapefruit and a fine herbal note. Caramel and light honey applies a candied sweetness to the fruit impressions.
The middle palate shows impeccable balance. While becoming fruit forward with hop flavor, its bold citrus character trends dry and pithy. As the malts show continual drying power, their caramels turn pleasantly toasty and nutty. Bitterly balanced in finish, the beer shows a fine grassy, piney and herbal bite to offset the lasting malt sweetness to near perfection.
Medium in body, the pale ale is the epitome of moderation; never overwhelming the palate yet always offering nuance of intrigue with every sip. Its bittersweet finish is once again medium length as the session fulfills its promise of crispness, cleanliness and refreshment.
