poured from a 12oz bottle into a tall new glarus pilsner glass. pours a clear but kind of darker straw gold with almost two fingers of dense white foam. decent lacing. bready malts and spicy hops on both the nose and in the taste. a clean, expressive lager yeast on the nose whereas the flavor has a bit of an off finish to it. medium-full mouthfeel. pretty decent lager. not my favorite, but it was a gifted can from my brother’s recent trip to KY.

Drier, crisper and with a slightly more hoppy edge, Monnik Beer sets their sights on Italy for a European-styled Pilsner.

Pouring a bright and lemony straw, the slightly hazy pale lager builds a stark white and tall column of foam. A spicy scent rolls off the rim, filled with fresh green hops, citrus, herb, orchard fruit and fresh bread. A light and mild mannered sweetness of grain brings a brisk grain taste, again with gentle bread flavor.

Breaming with carbonation, the racy lager dissolves its sweetness as the middle palate is a dry bread, cracker and wafer flavor in support to the assertive hop flavors to come. Lemongrass, hay, mint and parsley come to mind while soft esters of lemon and apple add a light and fruity flare. Trending bitter, peppery and spicy, the hop balance is strong and provides lemon pepper, grassy and floral spice.

Medium light in body, the carbonation, mild alcohol and hop spice all add to the beer's dryness and refreshment. Certainly more bitter than is usual for European pilsner, the beer's brisk flavor and feel fuels a refreshing and drinkable beer with minor hop and grain derived astringency to finish.
