Abbey was Ommegang's first beer and was styled after Dubbels produced by Belgian Trappist monks. A deep, rich and malty ale, Abbey uses several Belgian specialty malts and spices resulting in a very aromatic, flavorful beer.
Deep burgundy in color, topped by a dense tan head, Abbey Ale is rich on the palate but with a dry finish. Suitable for cellaring, Abbey develops wonderful caramel, fig, and currant notes with age.

Mildly cloudy dark amber body; dense, spongy head, light khaki colored. Dark malt scent with notes of figs and dates. notes of caramel and candi sugar. Taste follows along with the aroma; malty sweet, mildly spicy with suggestions of licorice and cardamom. Heavy body; lightly sticky on the palate; semi-dry overall.
I like this beer. It's malty, not overly boozy, and drinks well on a cold, snowy day. What's not to like?
ABV: 8.2%; pouring temperature: 36.1 ℉; bottling info: BEST BY 122924

Poured from a 12-oz bottle within three weeks of its Please Enjoy By date into a tulip glass.
Look: Clear amber-burgundy with a huge light tan head with pretty good retention, finally reducing to a foam ring with abundant lacing. A pretty pour!
Nose: Rich malt, dried stone fruit, licorice.
Taste: Attack follows the nose perfectly, with the addition of orange rind and spices. The finish is just dry enough to balance the rich malt.
Mouthfeel: Medium thick, full body, near perfect carbonation.
Overall: What an excellent dubbel! Smooth drinking, full-flavored, enjoyable. It’s hard to imagine how they could make this any better. Pairing wonderfully with our grilled swordfish dinner tonight. Nice work, Ommegang! There will always be a four-pack of this in my cellar.

Rich, clear mahogany with a big tan head, good retention, rings of lacing
Raisins, prunes, and other dried fruits, clove and white pepper, caramel and bready malt aroma
Raisin and prune, rich malt, and earthy spice flavors, but with a dry finish
Medium light body, great carbonation
A bit bigger than what you would expect from a Belgian dubbel, but still very nice.

Pours a reddish brown with a 1F head and moderate lacing.
Smells of toasted malt, bread and wine.
Tastes of malt, port wine, bready yeast and spice with a lightly bitter, boozy warm finish.
Medium body with light carbonation. Dry mouthfeel.
This is a very tasty, complex dubbel that is a bit stronger and a bit less sweet than most,

The pour is garnet colored. The body is medium & on the taste I'm getting some sweet roasted malt, caramel, brown bread, brown sugar, herbal tea, along with some hints of black licorice, black currant, bing cherry, orange peel, ginger, cinnamon, & cardamom. Furthermore, the 8.2% abv is well masked. Overall, this was a splendid Dubbel that's worthy of it's rank. Cheers! A-

Red/brown color, big beige head. The aroma of caramel malt, fruits, and spices. Taste following the aroma. Medium body, low carbonated. One of the top dubels I tried.
