Clear, copper color. Big, yellowish head. The aroma of caramel, figs, dark fruits, and ...clove. Moderate sweetness in taste with distinctive hoppy notes at the end. Malty, caramel and ...yeasty. Hard to call this beer a doppelbock. Anyway, it’s very tasty!

Look- Big head, even poured slow ("so as not to disturb the yeast sediment"). Deep amber, very cloudy, lots of the mentioned sediment. Smell: On the pour, a sweet, fruity, bready smell. Bready comes out with a little stir. Taste: I'm thinking, most doppels I've tried with a cider-y, fruit touch. Not overly sweet. Feel: Hey, I'm a stout guy, but this is okay, not watery. Overall, darn good. If they still brewed it, I'd have another!

Pours a reddish orange color with a huge tan head. The head does stick around for some time, so don't be in a hurry to try this one.

The smell is very bread like at first, but there is also toffee and caramel and a hint of fruit.

Fairly malty and sweet up front, with some fruit notes. I am detecting a Belgian character, almost like the candy sugar, but more likely some funk from the yeast. There is just a hint of bitterness at the finish, along with a touch of Belgian yeast funk.

Feel seems a bit thin, but enough carbonation to keep it interesting.

I liked this one. The blend of styles actually works, and makes for a beer with a lot of flavor. I am guessing if you don't like Belgian beer, you won't like this one, but if you do like Belgians and want to try a new variation, this is worth trying.

12 oz bottle >Ommegang tulip glass

An interesting collaboration and mash-up of styles. Heady, malt dominated Dopplebock with the traditional Belgian-style yeast..making it a Doppleale.

A beautiful red tinted amber color, very lively and bubbly from the yeast, little bits of floaties swirl around inside the otherwise clear liquid. The foamy froth cap stands up high, very slow dissipation with a thick layer of foam coverage at all times. Some big lacing is leftover.

The aroma is pretty excellent, caramel candy apple, spicey and earthy German hops, wood smoke, fruity esters from the yeast, peppery and tangy fruits with just a bit of heat tingle on the nose. Big, bold fruity sweet notes continue to grow as the liquid warms.

The balance of heady malt and funky yeast is pretty darn good, both aspects play nice together. A sharp, snappy bite quickly turns into a rather smooth and lushmedium body feel. The malt is very tasty with gentle layers of apple-sweet, slightly smokey and caramel effects. The yeast, which is not as bold or funky as some more traditional Belgian/French wildly fermented styles can be, but still bringing some sour-earth laden development's into the mix. Sweet and sour style fruits and grainy, earth tones are pretty deep from the house yeast. The German hops have a rather nice, herbal, dry earthy addition that just melds all things together. At 7.5 % abv, it's got good depth of charecter but never gets "boozy".

All in all, it's high class in a glass.

12 oz brown bottle - not dated

Ommegang Collaboration 2016 filled my tulip glass with a dark amber hue. A generous rocky off-white head was produced. The head held well and left behind spotty lacing. The smell is a classic Doppelbock - bready malt backbone, dark fruit and notes of caramel. The taste matches the nose with yeast present and a slight bitterness at the finish. The mouth feel is smooth, a little sticky and medium bodied.

Overall, a good drinking Doppelbock...I will have another.

My only complaint was the beer was a bit too dry from the house yeast and it was a bit foamy so it was hard to finish. Other than that it was quite a tasty brew

12oz bottle poured into a pils glass
A: Slightly hazy brown with a one-finger head that lingers
S: Bready, roasted malts, molasses
T: Quite sweet, raisin/molasses, fresh bread, a bit of yeast
M: Medium to full-bodied, sweet
O: Decent, a bit sweet for me- I agree it would fit better as a weizenbock

Pours an effervescent copper/orange with slight hazing & 2+ fingers of fluffed up tan head. Nice head retention & lacing

S: Brown bread, not much else

T: Brown bread, a little cakeyness, some dryness & yeasty bite up front, a little toffee as well. Dryness, a little more cakeyness & subtle booze warmth. Finishes cakey, a little dry, with a trace amount of green banana peel

MF: Medium body, soft carbonation, body thins a bit once warm

Drinks pretty good, works better for me as a Weizenbock, worth a try, Definetly like it better in the bottle, a little too dry for my liking

Pours a nice, somewhat hazy dark brown in color, and has a great head and good lacing -- hold that thought.

UGH. Funky Belgian yeast character! I'm not gonna lie, I thought it would be more traditional. : ( On the other hand there is a good bit of dark-skinned fruit character going on (tart cherry, plum and raisin), so it deserves at least a bump-up, there.

A LOT more traditional on the first sip: Big, smooth mouthfeel, and rather light in body. The sweet, malty/lightly boozy character coats the tongue and palate. Nice sipper... not too aggressive or carbonated. Finishes a bit on the dry side.

BUT THAT HEAD!!! It took me eight minutes to pour the full bottle into a glass! And it was a bit of a "gusher", this bottle -- what on earth?

All-in-all this is a tasty and turbid take on a classic style. Worth a try if you like a lot of treacly-plummy dark beers with just a bit of extra OOMPH -- much in keeping with the style. : )

L: Poured from a bottle to a pilsner glass. Had a medium brown color and a cloudy texture. There was an inch and a half of foamy, off white, fairly long-lasting head. Average lacing.

S: A decent enough aroma of malt, dark fruit, and some spices.

T: Tasted of different types of spices (cloves and coriander, among others), a lot of malt, a bit of dark fruit (fig, raisins), a hint of banana, and apple as well. An interesting flavor that isn't very doppelbock-ish, but still fairly tasty. The addition of dark fruit and spices works oddly well.

F: A well-carbonated beer with a pretty lively finish. Medium-bodied.

O: This is a solid, but not mind-blowing, beer. Drinkable, though.

From a 12 oz bottle in a snifter. This nice little dopple pours a cloudy
orange tinged brown with an excellent head of off white foam that
settles to a thick ring, thin layer, and features some nice sudsy lacing.
Nose of Belgian spices, brown sugars, and breaded malts with a good dose
of yeasty goodness present. Flavors excel with brown sugars, light coriander and
subtle clove, breaded malts, subtle brown sugars, and a touch of dried cherries.
Nice mouth feel; medium body, lightly coating, medium low carbonation, and
a sweet malty finish.

I would agree with other BA's that this is closer to a dubbel than a doppel,
but if one considers brewing practices WAAAAYYY back when I could almost
guarantee that this is closer to the style of what once was. Surely it could be
considered "liquid bread" with the breaded malts, and it is strong enough to
carry one over while fasting.

Cheers
