Ancient mariners braved the Aegean, holds laden with figs and raisins. They faced great storms, monstrous sea creatures, and merciless pirates. But all paled compared to the Sirens, whose enchanted songs drifted to sea and drew the sailors to their end.

Our dark ale, Sirens’ Song, pays homage to the lost cargos, with figs and raisins added to the brew kettle. The resulting beer is dark, mysterious, and as irresistible as the Sirens’ seductive song.

Roasted malt and burnt sugar aromas lead, followed by flavors of dark fruit and notes of dark caramel. The finish is smooth and balanced with subtle bitterness.

The dark mahogany colored beer pours out into a snifter glass with a 1" tan head that slowly recedes leaving a ring of foam on the glass and a thin layer of foam over most of the liquid. Sipping creates a sheet of foam on the side that turns into lots of patches and legs of lacing. Even to the end of the beer there are small patchs and a spiderweb of lacing on the side with the ring around the glass and a bit of foam still on the surface of the beer.

The aromas include some dark fruits such as plums, figs and raisins along with a rich, light, almost burnt character to the sweetness that seems a bit like toasted dark caramel

The flavors are much as expected from the nose with lots of dark fruits along with lots of toasted, almost burnt dark brown sugar and/or caramel showing in the noticeable but not unpleasant sweetness. The alcohol is well concealed here and there's just a bit of bitterness from the hops with a bit of dry spiciness in the background

The mouthfeel is on the light side of medium bodied and smooth with the gentle but persistent carbonation. The finish begins as the fruit flavors and toasted caramel sweetness begin to fade until there is a lightly dry, slightly spicy, lightly bitter ending.

On the whole this is a very well made beer with lots of complexity in the aromas/flavors that changes as the beer warms. I expect to be having again both as a special treat and as well having a bottle or two in the aging and future drinking.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a Dogfish Head tulip

L: Dark, dark brown pour... nearly black with thick foamy tannish head. Great lacing.

S: Dark sugars and fruit. Baked raisin, fig, and plum. Belgian yeast.

T.F: Semi-sweet... caramel and brown sugar. Dark fruit and yeast. More raisin and fig. A dash of spice. Creamy carbonation. Medium bodied... with more baked fruit at the finish.

O: A solid Belgian Dark. Good fruit character... not overly boozy. Easy drinking.

12oz bottle. Poured out an opaque, jet-black color with a small, tan head of foam. It smelled of dried dark fruits, cherry, and toffee. Rich dark fruit flavor with black cherry, toffee and some roastiness.

I don't see a bottle date listed.

Appearance: The body is a dark tawny brown under a medium-sized light khaki head. The head has a creamy consistency and it has good retention.

Aroma: There is an aroma of brown sugar, burnt caramel, and dates. It smells a lot like a sweets shop that is making caramel.

Taste: Up front there is a toasted caramel flavor followed by an immediate and strong flavor of toffee. There is a light bit of carbon at the back of the mouth and a sweet brown sugar and alcohol flavor that lingers at the back of the palate. It has this wafting candy sweetness that hangs out in the mouth after each sip.

Mouthfeel: The beer is clean and medium-light bodied with a rippling effervescence.

Overall: It's an absolutely outstanding beer. I wish there was some kind of date code so I could find out how long this has been aged or if it is fresh because at this point it is simply amazing. It is full of flavor and rich character that oozes all over the mouth and brings you into another world. This is the kind of beer that you could drink during a special occasion and it has enough of a unique and memorable character that it would leave an imprint on the memory. I would drink it again and I highly recommend looking for it.

Picked up a single from the Craft Beer Hop Stop on 1-15-18 for $4.25. Not sure from the bottle code what the packaging date was.

Beer poured a deep burgundy brown with a nice off white head that had some really good hang time.

Nose is classic Belgian yeast esters, dark fruit forward, very nice.

Taste was figs and raisins over an ample malt body. Hopping was adeptly applied to balance the sweetness out.

Mouthfeel was light bodied and very smooth across the palate.

Overall a well crafted tasty beer that i would definitely have again!

12 oz brown bottle - not dated

Ommegang Sirens Song poured a dark brown producing a tan creamy and bubbly 2-finger head. The head held well and dissipated to form thick foamy lacing. The smell is sweet and is dominated by roasted malt and burnt sugar. The taste is similar to the smell. The flavor of roasted malt, dark fruit (i.e., raisins and figs) , and notes of dark caramel are present. There is just enough hops to balance the finish. Mouth feel is smooth, a little chewy and sticky with a medium body.

Overall, a nice and flavorful representation of the Belgian Strong Dark Ale style. I'll have another...cheers!

Wow! I love strong, dark Belgian-style beers. This beer is WONDERFUL! It pours super-dark with a dense light-tan head with plenty of lacing. The malt and fruits really come through in both the nose and the flavor. Some American beers of this style can be a bit too sweet. Not this one! It's just right! I'll be buying this one every time I can find it.

12oz bottle: This one pours an opaque brown color. There was quite a bit of a light brown head on it. Nice nose. Dark fruits, some yeast, grain and faint alcohol. The taste is very good. Lots of malts, with a subdues sweetness. Caramel malts, dark fruits, a hint of roast, faint spices. Very nice!

12oz bottle poured into a chalice.

A: Black opal in color. Two fingers of tan-colored head retain very well. Chunky lacing.

S: Caramel, burnt sugar, hint of molasses and roast. Fig newtons, in a big way. Faint dusty yeast and some mild phenols. Softly earthy.

T: Caramel, molasses, and burnt sugar lead. Soft roast and soot. Raisin and fig eventually take focus. Yeast is much more forward than the nose suggested. Dusty/earthy, black peppercorn, clove. Faint hop spice. Brush of alcohol is barely noticeable. Fading roast and bitterness in the finish.

M: Medium bodied. Airy and creamy body is whisked away by the aggressive carbonation.

O: He'll of a beer. The raisin and fig contributions are highly noticeable, but fit right in. Yeast complexities and a great fermentation make it noteworthy. This is a fantastic beer, and I'd be happy drinking it alongside some of the Belgian greats.

Poured from 12oz bottle into glass. No bottling information seen on bottle or label.
Very dark brown body, opaque. One finger tan head settles to interrupted cap, with sheets of lacing on glass.
Aroma of roasted malt, burnt sugar, dark fruits, Belgian yeast.
Taste is much more forward and prominent than the aroma. Taste is full of dark fruit (figs and raisins), caramel and burnt sugar, yeast, and slightly bitter hops at the end. Dark chocolate and coffee.
Medium mouth feel, initial sting on the tongue, no strong bitterness. Alcohol burn is subtle and is present throughout the sip.
Very complex for most American beers, but a worthy American example of a Belgian strong dark ale.

Found a new Ommegang, reviewing a new Ommegang. Simple as that.

Pours dark and opaque black like a stout. A large, rocky, off white head pours and it sticks around for quite awhile.

Aroma is typical Belgian yeasty smell. Also getting some dark fruit on the nose from the figs and raisins. Almost black cherry like.

Incredibly abundant notes of dark fruit wash over the palate at first sip. It goes deep into stone fruit and dark fruity character. Figs, unripe black cherry, and raisins all mingle here with the spicy Belgian character taking a slight richness to my surprise.

If there's any Belgian strong dark that is like a stout it is most certainly this one. It has a handful of Belgian character and you can feel the 9% abv, but it still has a smooth-ish mouthfeel.

I love Ommegang. I read do. Going into this is expected a good Belgian style dark ale but this is really up there. It has plenty of character and is still very well balanced. It's fruity, dark, and works on every level.

A: A beautiful dark cola pour in the chalice produces a billowing, foamy, tan head. Small air pockets line the vessel walls, while the head maintains a strong stance. Visible effervesce was very soft.

S: Sweet dark fruit, plums and sugary figs with some raisins highlights the open. Caramelized syrup adds sweetness with some freshly baked spicy dark bread. Some dried cola, fresh coffee and fresh chocolate add subtle hints and accents. Overall a nice strength and lasting appeal.

T: The flavor was spicy anise, rye, and cola. Dark bread, caramelized malts, and lots of dark fruit bring a freshness and deep sense of flavor, rich, and eloquent in its delivery. Hints of coffee and chocolate show a good support along with some spicy peppery spicing, rye like, with a counter of dark crystal malts that add a sweet raisiny character. The yeastiness is soft but evident, with flashes of banana, dark fruit and malt influence. Cola-coffee is fresh, smooth, with some licorice spicing, tarragon, and some background herbal hops. Ends with a spicy caramel-rye maltiness.

M: Silky mouthful, full feeling, softly carbonated with a nice chewiness on the hold. Warming spiciness on the inner cheeks.

O: Overall a vast spectrum of flavor as well a good aromatic sense. The 9% abv is perfectly fitting, feeling less at times behind the sweet caramelized malts and dark fruit. Amazingly smooth, eloquent, and expect nothing less from Ommegang, which produces some of the most refined and polished beers. High drink-ability rate, high recommend, and outstanding quality all around.
