been wanting to try this one for awhile, was stoked to see it on a bottle menu recently, i think i thought i had missed this one! apparently it starts with their already impressive witbier they do, but then gets fruit additions of mango, kiwi, and passion fruit juices, a nice dry hopping, a brett brux pitch, and some patience, really nice result, even a little bit older now its doing just fine, dry for being this fruity, might have been sweeter when it first came out, but i like where this is at. a little haze, pale rusty orange in low light with big bubble carbonation collecting into two inches of wispy belgian looking white head, gorgeous really, nice retention, extremely well bottle conditioned, lots of life. the nose is unique, its bretty but thats not all, its not totally taken over, obvious as brux but still not quite all the way developed to me, not young or anything, but not like 100% brett either, although the wit yeast doesnt seem like a huge part of this anymore, at least at first. the fruit is apparent as tropical, a little decaying but not yucky, kiwi in front of the others for me, some acidity from the passion fruit but its deeper personality is faint, a little citrus to it, white wine for sure, white and yellow florals, subtle white pepper, and some neat hop character holding up too perhaps thanks to the brett as well, complex and unlike anything ive had before with these fruits and hops together with these yeasts. some nice early funk with the light sweetness of the fruit early in the flavor, kiwi in front again, green grape, chardonnay, wheat still grounding this, lemon and white pepper, more wit to it now, some mango and orange to me, mimosa vibes and then the later funk hit, no acidity really at all, just the brett, musty and more mature to me as it warms, enough body but pillowy and expansive rather than sturdy, super peppy carbonation the whole way. the older but unique fruit with this brett is awesome, the base beer is radically transformed, and its a lovely drink, low alcohol and complex enough to be almost challenging, vinous and summery, incredibly distinctive, really dug it!

Hazy yellow. Big, white head. Fruits, wheat, yeasts, malt, and some funk in the aroma. Light sourness in taste. Light body. Easy to drink.

Fruity, yet dry, an interesting exploration of the farther reaches of Brettanomyces yeast. Passion fruit aroma, and dried pear in the nose. There is just a barely detectable hop taste that adds a leafy touch. Barely a scratch of bitterness either, though the yeasty zing is quite prominent.
The fruit follows through to the aftertaste, a nice idea for flavoring since this would be so dry and austere otherwise. It's a Brett classic without any sour notes. Pours a clear light amber with coarse carbonation. From the 750 bottle purchased for a reasonable price in the far Northwest.

25.4 oz bottle poured into tulip glass.
Hazy sun yellow color with a tall fluffy head of 3 fingers. Lots of nice webby lacing left behind.
Definite aroma of mangoes, and then some faint snap of passion fruit and finally some fuzzy kiwi action. Very faint funk. Lots of wheat malt.
Flavor brings fruit that's mostly faded by this point. Kiwi, mango, and yes some passion fruit, but it's washed out with heavy wheat malts and some sharp german or czech hop.
Feel is very busy with carbonation with slight creaminess underneath. Drying finish with pectin.
Overall I think this probably was good at one point, but since I got this on clearance I'm assuming it's quite old. Worth the $5 I paid!

Poured from a cork'n'cage bomber into a Dogfish Head tulip
L: Slightly hazed light golden pour with massive fluffy white head. Great retention and sticky lacing.
S: Fruit and white wine. Mild funk.
T/F: Super dry... lightly acidic. Only mild tartness... strong tropical fruit. Mango, kiwi, and summer stone fruits. Minimal funk but not strong... mostly bone dry fruit. Definitely reminds me of white wine... light bodied and a bit overcarbonated.
O: A pretty outstanding beer... not much in the way of tartness/funk, but more like a bone dry fruity white wine. Very tasty/drinkable. Strong work from Ommegang.

L - hazy, opaque, yellow/golden with some sediment along with a medium to large, creamy white head that sticks around and leaves some lacing behind.
S - wheat, hops, tropical fruit, some spice, and the unmistakable brettanomyces yeast. The smell is pleasant, but not particularly strong.
T - Complex but follows the nose with wheat up front, followed by the tropical fruits - mango and passion fruit really stands out to me - along with spice and white pepper, hints of lemon and honey, and of course the unmistakable funk of brett. Everything is intermixed quite well into a nice farmhouse/saison/witbier.
F - light bodied with a moderate to high amount of carbonation - crisp white a lively level of carbonation.
O - A funky witbiet/farmhouse saison that's all around good, but not as great as I was hoping. The flavors are there, but nothing really stands out to me that would make me want to buy this one again. It's a shame because after having Ommegang's Bigger and Bretter (which I loved), I was really looking forward to this one. Definitely worth a try though.

Brewery Ommegang has always embraced the traditional beers of Belgium, starting with the honorable abbey ales and then slipping on to farmhouse inspired taste. It was only a matter of time before they got around to the funk.
On the backs of passionfruit, mango and kiwi, Fruittanomyces pours a slight peachy hue off of straw. Hazy and heady, the beer's fruit and fauna swirls about the nose with tropical fruit, orchard fruit and citrus, with only hints of balsa, dried leather and oak. Soft wheat greets the tongue with sourdough, a pep of honey with a mild angel food cake roundness.
The wheat malt relaxes slightly and allows the full and fruity flavor to command the middle palate. The natural esters of lemon, dried orange, grapefruit, apple and pear frame the beer's grounded taste while the whimsy of tropical fruit adds an exotic, dehydrated and tangy succulent to complement the natural fruit flavors. A balance of white pepper, clove and anise again brings a natural yeast spiciness just as the funk of fermentation adds wood spices, burlap and cork-like nuances in complementing the late palate.
Medium bodied and trending dry, the wheaten substrate strives to keep the beer creamy and frothy while a brisk acidity and fleeting sweetness has the ale trending lighter and more arid. Overall, the tastes are present, balanced and characterful but the hierarchy in taste is both calm and neutral across the board. A short afterglow of sourdough and fruit peels echo softly on the after palate.
