Sampled this twice at Belgium Comes to Cooperstown 2008.

A - Almost jet black

S - Like the other review mentions, you get a clear coffee/espresso smell. However, as the beer warms, the sweetness of oatmeal creeps in to match up 50/50 with the coffee aroma. The samples that I had were served pretty cold for the style.

T - Mirrors the aroma, roasty espresso flavors and touches of oatmeal as it warmed.

M- Thinner body than I expected from a beer of such great flavors, color, and representation of the style. The carbonation was a bit higher than expected as well, but worked very well with all aspects of the brew.

D - I had no trouble with either sample in this department. Overall a great package, and wonderful to sip on again, and again. Like the first review, the lower ABV is certainly welcomed in this brew.

I too hope that this is bottled by Ommegang, standout in the crowd at the festival.

Served at Belgium Comes to Cooperstown 2008. This is a coffee oatmeal stout named for Lebowski. I had several glasses to get a feel for it.

A: The stout is quite dark, a pitch black brew, with a tan colored head that neared a finger in multiple glasses.

S: The aroma is burnt coffee, lots of espresso. Oatmeal doean't stand out in the nose behind the abundance of coffee.

T: The coffee bitterness hits you upfront before melding into a deep roasted stout body. Lots of burnt grains and charred toast abounds. Oatmeal sweetness mixes throughout, adding a lactic flavor to the darkness of the stout. The best part of the ale is the interplay between the espresso and stout bodies. A fantastic brew for a great festival.

M: Bitter and burnt, the ale doesn't skimp on the espresso coffee goodness. The oatmeal and coffee creates a well-rounded, full taste that finishes nicely.

D: The moderate ABV really helps this ale. It was one of the best of the day and hopefully something that Ommegang will bottle in the future.
