Had this beer at BXL, my favorite beer bar in midtown. Poured into a custom BXL glass it was copper with a thick Lacey head. Smelled like good beer. Tasted like mild beer since it was following Chimay Blue for reasons of saving some coin. Full bodied and heavy mouthfeel. Overall this was a tasty, quafable, potent nightcap. I stole the glass and the barmaid was a smoke show. Luckily, she didn't see me clip the glass.

Had on tap at BXL cafe. Lovely orange hue capped by a soapy looking white head. Nose has light orange, coriander, and earthiness. Taste brings the addition of light biscuit. Bitterness is a bit cutting but enjoyable. Mouth is light bodied, does become dry. Yum.

Cuvée BXL | 470 ml. (on-tap) | 6.0% ABV | May 2011
Brewer: Brewery Ommegang
Style: Belgian Pale Ale
Glass: pint
—Cuvée BXL is made specially by Brewery Ommegang for BXL East and BXL Café in NYC—
Appearance:
Burnt orange body topped off with half an inch of bubbly, white foam.
Aroma:
Orange peal and coriander leap out of a bed of lightly roasted grain. It's pleasant but not arresting.
Taste:
Biscuit malt, orange peel, coriander, white pepper, light hop oils. The finish is grassy, dry, and clean, with a citrus kiss that lingers.
Mouthfeel:
Medium to light-bodied with appropriately peppy carbonation.
Harmony:
Overall a solid house beer with some pleasant characteristics. The pepper and spices are not overdone, while the citrus comes across as refreshing rather than overly sour. In many ways, this is a beer that does a good job of not getting it wrong.
Would I get it again?:
Bottled: on-tap May 2011
Served: May 18, 2011
Price = $8 at BXL East
