Experience the culmination of a daring and philosophical task. Imperial Triple Barrel Blend. We challenged convention with Three Philosophers, and the result is nothing short of extraordinary. Crafted for Ommegang connoisseurs and spirit enthusiasts alike, this barrel-aged blend is a thought-provoking fusion of Brandy Barrel-Aged Three Philosophers, a Whiskey Barrel-Aged Stout, and a Grand Cru Brown Ale aged in Wheated Bourbon Barrels. That’s a lot to ponder, to put it simply: you’re holding a symphony of flavors that invites contemplation and enjoyment.

Not a rich or thick bourbon mouthfeel, whiskey dominates. Wish the mouth feel was a bit thicker but overall solid beer.

A delicious barrel aged brew with a great balance of bourbon to ale. A deep brown with a somewhat fizzy head. A touch of lace and a light ring as it faded. Sweet nose with vanilla, cherries, oak and bourbon. Mild chocolate. Dark fruits and Belgian yeast. Tasty beast this is. Sweet, Belgian dark ale. Dark fruits. Figs, dates molasses, plus all the players from the nose. Alcohol is present but not overbearing. Medium light mouthfeel that somehow develops a full bodied creaminess. This is a great cigar beer. Sip and savor. Great beer.

Brandy snifter vessel. Pours murky dark brown. Residual bottle conditioning yeast at the bottom of the bottle. Didn’t muster up much of a head. Not a lively beer in terms of carb.
Semi-dark chocolate, prunes, dates, vanilla extract, and booze in the aroma.
Taste is classic Ommegang Americanized BDSA. Dried, dark fruit, muted phenols, fig. Barrel adds some booze and fresh cut, caramelized wood-mainly cedar and light charred oak. Finishes dry like a dubbel. Slightly vinous.
Body is med/thin, med/low carb.
Ommegang’s barrel program is hit or average. This one is somewhere in between. The blend tastes mostly of 3P but is a bit muddled otherwise. Enjoyable enough.

Poured from a room temp bottle into a 16oz pint glass. Appearance is very dark brown with a medium brown head that receded quickly leaving a thin cap around the rim.
Aroma is bourbon, malt, wood (oak or cherry?), vanilla, burnt sugar or toffee.
Taste follows the nose with bourbon, vanilla, malt, caramel or burnt sugar, booze, some butterscotch tones in there.
Mouthfeel is medium with pillows of creamy carbonation yielding a velvety texture. Not chewy nor cloying. Definitely some warming happening going down the hatch.
Overall this is a well-crafted beer. Nicely balanced between sweet notes and warm bourbon and moderate bittering. A BIG complex beer with lots of boozy bourbon notes. Enjoyable, but not a session beer. Good one to sip and savor on a cold night.
