a really basic beer right here, and honestly not nearly as good as i expected it to be with how well folks seem to regard this brewery, and considering how good their pour over porter was. this comes clear but a little lazy looking from the tap, golden but without much head or shine. the aroma and flavor are of tired lager yeast and a little more sweetness than this style asks for i think, some honey to it, but it lingers and doesnt have the crispness i like in the style. there is some european pale malt character here, biscuity and crackery and sort of flakey and cerealy, but the sweetness in here is a distraction from it and the yeast doesnt all the way jive for me, its a little disjointed for how simple it is, which seems to me like an undesirable trait in a beer like this. its light in feel with okay carbonation and an extended finish for the style, just a beer at the end of the day. i had much higher hopes for this, given their reputation, hopefully i can track down some more of their stuff next time i am in iowa, but this one didnt do much for me...

On tap at the brewery. Clear golden body. Smells of slightly sweet and fruity malts. A bit of bread. Tastes of strong bready malt. A slight bit of spicy malt. Strong breadiness and sweetness behind it. Maybe too much for me. Medium body. Decent.
