can into glass
Very creamy 'n' thick tan head. Very dark caramel/chestnut, which is opaque, with some clear chestnut and a little auburn for highlights, makes up the appearance. Caramel, a bit of woodiness, with a bit of molasses, for the aroma. Moderate amount of medium toasted wood, with a touch of roasted caramel malts, for the taste. Medium mouthfeel, and has a pretty good finish.

I had this beer on-tap in a pint glass at Toronado in Seattle.

Appearance: rich dark body with some brown around the edges. Head is a finger of creamy tan foam that leaves a good lace on the glass. Attractive!

Smell: not super strong, but nice elements of caramel and chocolate. Not bad at all.

Taste: nutty, caramelly and just a little toasty. A little bit on the sweet side, but this is an interesting and tasty beer.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a decent carbonation and creaminess.

Overall: it's sweet, like I said, but it's a good porter. Perhaps a dessert drink for some.

Dark raw umber brown with a brief foam in the Duvel tulip. Goes fairly flat while sipping that first glass. Some coffee and cocoa in the nose. Nutty roasted grain taste. On the sweet side and a little buttery. Hops are restrained and the bitter aftertaste is not so pronounced.

Dark and gritty aftertaste but fairly drinkable. A touch of coffee grounds. The best name for a local brew: it's actually the name of a street near La Conner, Wash. From the 32 oz growler filled at the Skagit River restaurant.
