I had this beer on-tap in a mug at Special Brews in Lynnwood, WA.
Appearance; rich dark amber brown hue with a pretty clear body. Head is a thin layer of frothy ivory foam; not a bad looking beer for the style.
Smell: lightly tart with a hit of caramel malt character. I like it, although a little bit more sweetness or fruitiness would go a long way here for me.
Taste: a moderate tartness up front with a bit of nuttiness and caramel character. It's not bad, but it doesn't offer much complexity or novelty.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a good carbonation and relatively good creaminess.
Overall: a fairly decent oud bruin, though it lacks the sweetness and candylike tartness of the Belgian original.
