The beer is black with a small tan head that disappeared quickly.
Coffee and chocolate aroma, a little bit of caramel.
Coffee taste, followed by chocolate. Caramel background. Hop bitterness in the aftertaste, with a hint of pine.
Medium-bodied and very drinkable.

Appearance: Pours espresso colored with tawny highlights; the head builds to one finger while leaving strands and dots of lacing
Smell: Chocolate, toasted brown bread and a smoky nut flavor that I presume is Piñon
Taste: Chocolate and toasted brown bread forward, with a hint of caramel underneath; through the middle, the flavor I presume to be Piñon builds; there is a bit of acrid bitterness in the finish
Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation
Overall: Unique, I presume, to New Mexico, this was a fun beer to try and very enjoyable to boot
Thanks, M_chav, for the opportunity

6-pack of cans from Smith's. One of Sarah's favorites! I can tell why, PACKED with coffee. Plenty of flavor when you're in coffee mood.

From can into pint glass. Dark brown color with a one finger head that hangs around and leaves a small ring of lacing at the top of the glass. Aroma of coffee, piñon, and dark chocolate. Taste follows the nose with roasted coffee and piñon wood with a whisper of dark chocolate at the end. Medium carbonation and medium-heavy body that is just a little sticky.

Tasted on tap at the brewery as part of a tasting flight and also from a 16 oz can into a snifter.
L - Opaque dark brown/black color with a thick, creamy, light brown head.
S - Aggressive aromas of pinon wood smoke, dark roasted espresso and dark bitter chocolate.
T - Good porter malt and roastiness, but pushed more toward a stout profile with the added bitterness and burnt, acrid notes of the pinon-roasted coffee. A bit harsher than a typical porter. Hops and yeast do not rise above detectable flavor levels.
F - Medium body with moderate carbonation and strong bitterness, seemingly caused by both hops and coffee additions. Alcohol is well hidden. Dry finish.
O - Overall a good porter, especially for those who are fans of coffee beers. The pinon-roasted coffee is a major component, giving this a unique New Mexico character. However, I find the roastiness it adds to be a bit acrid and harsh.
