Sometimes it's hard to lead off and define a category within the available options. This one calls itself a double IPA, so into the Imperial IPA list it goes, as it does bring an eight percent ABV. The pour to empty a pint can into a clear glass liter mug goes very well. There's no ever expanding foam, now too common. Instead, there's a modest off-white head on top of an opaquely dark apricot-amber colored brew. The smell is a confusing mess of hops, sour fruit and coconut, not surprising considering the ingredients. Certainly not a standout, at least this delivers nearly exactly what it describes. First, it truly is an IPA, with appropriate hopping. Second, it brings all the included flavors in moderate and balanced fashion. Third, but importantly, the body is sufficient and the ABV, likely thanks to all the flavors, is unnoticed. This isn't a desert beer. This is a Double IPA with flavors associated with Key Lime pie. It works.
