16 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 10/18/2018. Pours nearly opaque dark brown color with a 2 finger fairly dense and fluffy light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to large cap that lasts. Thick foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of milk chocolate, cocoa, maple syrup, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, roasted nuts, toasted biscuit, and brown bread dough/crust; with lighter notes of licorice, molasses, coffee, raisin, prune, fig, date, smoke, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. A bit too fruity/yeasty aromas, but not overwhelming. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malts, maple syrup, light-moderate fruity yeast, and light earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of big milk chocolate, cocoa, maple syrup, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, roasted nuts, toasted biscuit, and brown bread dough/crust; with lighter notes of licorice, molasses, coffee, raisin, prune, fig, date, smoke, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal, grassy, peppery, roasted bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, maple syrup, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, roasted nuts, toasted biscuit, brown bread dough/crust, licorice, molasses, coffee, dark fruit, smoke, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, maple syrup, light-moderate fruity yeast, and light earthy hop flavors; with a great roast/hop bitter/sweet balance, and no cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering hop/roast bitterness and carbonation. Medium-plus carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/bready, and lightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Mild increasing warmth of 10% after the finish. Overall this is a delicious English style imperial brown ale. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, maple syrup, light-moderate fruity yeast, and light earthy hop flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to drink for the big ABV, with the mildly bitter/drying finish; great soft feel, not overly roasty for the style. Awesome balance of rich malts, maple syrup, and fruity English yeast complexity; with just enough earthy hops to balance sweetness. A very enjoyable offering, and impressive style example. A bit over carbonated, but not a bad thing; made it smoother overall.
