This beer is black. A fine, chestnut head holds at one inch for several minutes before eventually settling to a thin veil. Fine lace coats the backside of a Swiftwater Anniversary snifter, while a thick viscous film clings to the frontside.
The nose is dominated by whiskey, followed by blackberries and a light background of dark chocolate and roasted malt.
The opening is very sweet and dominated by blackberries. Tartness builds from light to dramatic in a very vinuous finish. Whiskey shows strong, start to finish. From what I read about ARONIA berries this beer captures them prominently throughout. By the way, apparently, they are also known as "choke" berries.
A medium body with light carbonation and a hard, smooth texture. Alcohol is strong, though below the stated expectation.
This is an easy-drinking, strong beer. A rare breed. As a Stout, this misses a few of my expectations, however, all is forgiven because it is mighty tasty.
