Sampling a cellar temp growler poured into a snifter. The growler opens with a little pop and tan foam slowly rises towards the mouth of the vessel.
The beer pours a jet black hue with no light passing through my glass.
A creamy tan head of 3 cm foams up even with a gentle pour and fades to a sturdy edge layer.
The aroma is some molasses mixing with roasted malt that is almost burnt notes. There is also a bit of dark fruit on the nose with just a little bit of raisin mixed in for good measure. The fruit is really buried behind the previously noted scents. Overall the nose is just a little too mild for what I would want from the style.
The first sip of the beer reveals a silky smooth textured body with very fine tingly carbonation that leaves an impression on my palate long after swallowing.
The flavor is what I expect after smelling the aroma. I get a bit of brown sugar and some molasses up front which rolls to a bit of roasted malt hit and then allows some dark fruit to take over just before the finish, which hits with just a little peppery booze and warmth on the swallow.
This is a nice rich stout made by a new brewery. I find it very drinkable and with just enough kick to remind me what Im drinking.
