Formerly Retainer Red Rye IPA

Keeping legal counsel on retainer means they will always be ready to act exclusively on behalf of the client. It also means the lawyer always gets paid. That makes the retainer a mutually beneficial instrument that provides for timely and professional representation. To make sure this ale delivers the best impression, we’ve used malted rye to provide a slightly spicy note to the malty center and to compliment the piney, citrusy and slightly bitter finish. Rest assured, this ale is perpetually on the case, consistently delivering guaranteed representation.

12 oz can from SC with a November 2017 canning date. [$2.19]
Pours a clear, deep copper color with a moderate size, durable, beige-colored head.
Dank, musty, grassy, herbal aroma with some citrus.
Less complex and better flavor with some pine. Moderate bitterness. Hoppy finish and aftertaste.

BA raters to date, this is a Red Rye IPA and should be rated as such. Excellent malty taste up front with a hoppy bitter finish. Outstanding Red Rye IPA Legal Remedy!

On-tap at The Garden Cafe, York, SC

A: The beer is clear amber yellow in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a short white head that died down and left some lacing on the surface.
S: Light aromas of spicy rye are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and is mostly dominated by flavors of rye with some associated slickness. A faint amount of bitterness is perceptible.
M: It feels medium-bodied and somewhat crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is quite drinkable as it is not overly spicy or bitter.

Not sure what style they were trying to hit here. Was the same color as both of their pale ales, no evidence of rye whatsoever. Tasted more like a slightly hopped American wheat ale, and not a good one.
