Sampling a growler at cellar temp poured into a chalice. Picked it up on a recent visit to the brewery where the owner Ben Braddock was very hospitable and got to sample several of his beers, including this one.
The beer pours a slightly hazy amber color with densely packed khaki colored head of 2 cm foaming up and fading to a wispy surface layer that covers my glass.
The aroma is some sweet malt some dark fruit and a bit of cloves with caramel and is generally sweet overall. I dont get any hops as would be expected on the style. The nose is a bit on the mild side but it is a mix of appealing notes.
The first sip reveals an average body with very fine tingly carbonation. The flavor is malty and sweet up front and rolls to some fruit and again cloves and general sweet spiciness. There is not any booze or hop presence that I can detect on this beer. I do get just a bit of a tartness buried in the the flavor of this beer. I find it very drinkable and enjoyable and a good example of a great style for the winter months. Thanks Ben!
