Brewed in January 2019 and aged in a Cruzan Rum barrel for a year. Pours deep brown with heavy notes of spiced rum with a smooth, sweet malt back bone.

Picked up a 16 oz can from the brewery a few days ago. Beer was canned on 10/7/2019 Almost 1 year to the day from when I bought it!
The beer pours a clear rich mahogany color and allows very little light to pass through my glass. A fizzy dense khaki colored head of 1 cm foams up from the pour. This foam fades to a thin edge layer and some wispy islands fairly quickly after I empty the can into my glass.
The aroma on this beer is big and malty with caramel, toffee, and brown sugar. I also get vanilla and some general spiciness, which mixes with a little bit of rum booziness, but it doesnt smell fusol or hot. No hop character shows through at all.
First sip reveals a fairly thick body and sticky texture with very fine and slightly tingly carbonation. This is a bit of a sipping beer.
Flavor is sweet malt, brown sugar, caramel, toffee, some dark fruit, with fig and plum notes. I also get some vanilla and light spicy notes of nutmeg and cinnamon hits. The finish reveals a bit of warming booze that I feel on my throat and my belly. Again, no hops come through anywhere on this malt forward brew.
I enjoy this one quite a bit, I was worried about the rum barrel aging as it is not my favorite liquor, but this comes together nicely and works well. This would be a good beer for sitting around the fire pit or sipping while reading or watching a show on TV. Well done beer Ben! A winner from Hog river IMO!
