Brewing Projekt Weird Pop Cream Ale with Blood Orange and Jalapeño, 5.1% ABV. Pours hazy orange with no head, which of course leaves no lacing. Nose is orange and peppers. Taste follows with the orange prevailing, moderately sweet, moderate pepper heat, no bitterness. Well balanced sweetness and burn. Decent smooth mouthfeel, if a bit under-carbonated. Overall outstanding. Can't really tell it's a cream ale under the covers.

Can. Fizzy head that fades. Mango orange juice color.

Pretty much what you’d expect, but not really a cream ale ale and a bit too sweet. The jalapeños are fresh and spicy and pack a nice punch. This would be better if it wasn’t so sweet.

 

 

Poured from a pint can into a Nonic pint.

Pours very orange juice like. Opaque dark orange with very little head. No lacing.

Aromas are straight and as advertised--orange and green and red spicy chilis with a bit of background lactic aroma.

Mildly sweet on the tip of the tongue, with orange and maybe a bit of grapefruit. The jalapenos arrive without a trace of restraint in midstream, but they are a mixture of fruity and grassy pepper flavors, like a mixture of green and red chilis. The heat doesn't really manifest very strongly until the end of the quaff, at the back of the tongue, and then washes back toward the front, ending with a tingle on the tip of the tongue. Simple but direct.

The brew could use a little more carbonation, especially since it's called weird "pop," which is the midwestern word for "soda." (Do people in Wisconsin called it "pop" or "soda pop"? Maybe I'm an idiot.) Anyway, the lack of carbonation is offset by some solid but not overpowering pepper tingle.

Chili beers are either apologetic or overpowering with the heat. This one comes dangerously close to the latter, but the strong orange flavors and acid help balance things out. It's kind of funky-looking, and kind of weird overall, but the pepper aromas and flavors are fresh and on point, if that's what you want.
