really cool place right down on 17th street. glad they are finally open. sort of a neat vibe in here, minimalist but modern decor, changing color neon lights and simple furniture in a long narrow space with a small patio out front. it sort of feels oceanic themed, and not just because of the name, but it feels like a submarine in some ways, nautical and deep sea impression. just missing a periscope. i like the vibe, its something different than the cookie cutter taprooms we are seeing all over the place now. family business from what i understand too, thats always cool. they have done a nice job with their space, brew house is ten barrels and in the back, with the fermenters up front in the window. maybe ten beers on, most of which were quite good. the stout to me was the obvious weak link, while the bitter was the clear winner of the lot, but everything else was tasty too. the most adventurous one was the belgian strong for sure, but none of the beers were all that experimental. it seems like they are nailing down some basic styles before doing anything too far out. was surprised to not see an ipa of any kind on the list, they have to be one of the few breweries in the country not producing one, but i suspect that will change over time. all in all this is a great addition to the neighborhood, offering something quite apart from the other breweries in the area, and they should do well. we will definitely be back.
