Pours a very beautiful rich orange sunset color with a lot of opacity and a sizeable head with great staying power and some lacing.
Smell explodes with mango as soon as the crowler was cracked. Really dominated by a mango aroma that reminds me of the mango lassee we served at an indian restaurant I used to work at. Beyond the overpowering aroma of mango there are hints of candied orange peel and mellow creamy/vanilla notes. It's a very pleasant smell for sure but I knocked it fairly hard because it is a very one note song, and not one that makes me think beer at all.
Taste is a bit more complex, there is a pleasing bitterness in the lead, notes of pineapple and mango and valencia orange. Then a very sharp lime peel bitterness comes through that clears the way for a closing act of mango with a sort of grassy and herbal astringent finish. There are redeeming qualities here but it's a bit of a chaotic display never fully melding into a coherent flavor.
Mouthfeel is adequate and fairly typical for the style. Could use a bit more body and bit less carbonation.
Overall this is a bit better than expected and makes me interested to try an IPA from them without the fruit, I feel like there's a good base that just gets sort of clashed over with the fruit in this one. Maybe it's your kinda thing though?
