According to Bluecat's Website:
Original Gravity: 13 Plato (1.052 SG)
Final Gravity 2.8 Plato (1.011 SG)
Color: 22 ÂșL
IBU's: 40
Aug. BU/GU: 0.28
ABV: 6.1%
Pours a very dark rust colored red. Not as fruity, juicy looking as you oftentimes get in American Ambers. More like dark maple syrup. Nice head.
Smells of a west coast hop blend. The only one I could pick up for sure was Cascade, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was some cluster in there, too. Mild malt backbone does a decent job of balancing things out.
Tastes very much like it smells only with a bigger hops presence. Bitter west coast funk hops, citrusy cascade nodes, and then more bitterness and a light caramel backbone. The hop blend does this--and others do it, too--where there's citrus, then there' s tiny bit of pine, and then there's a little kick of what tastes plesantly like Windex. The way Windex (without ammonia) smells, that is. I like it, but I could see how some wouldn't.
One complaint with this beer: It went far, it was very nearly an eXtreme beer, but then it just stopped at the precipice. It's okay if you're making a medium-strength beer, it's okay if you're making a lighter beer, and it's okay if you're making a strong beer. Just don't tease me with one that's _almost_ strong. Why come so close and hold back? Still, this is a solid beer and a fanstastic experiment with the style.
