Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a dark brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of nice barrel-aged bourbon with some floral coffee notes with some light vanilla and nice black chocolate malt notes. Taste is also dominated by bourbon barrel-aged notes with some floral coffee and vanilla notes with some rich black chocolate notes with some residual sugar notes. Body is above average with a nice creamy texture and good carbonation with some faint apparent alcohol. Solid barrel-aged stout with somewhat of a pastry feel.

My favourite of the four variants.

I bought the three pack of this year's Balam crop. Quite pricey, so let's see whether they are worth it.
Starting with this one.
Pours almost oil like thick. Doesn't leave a head. The nose is freshly percolated coffee. Some bourbon, vanilla, and hazelnut.
A bit oily on the taste, so it doesn't start out well. But as it slides down, everything is better and well rounded. So it ends up nice enough, but that initial taste and feel with every sip is somewhat unsettling.
Expected more from a beer that costs over $18.
