Pours a thick ink black with a deep mocha head that forms slowly and dissipates quickly. No lacing to speak of.
The aroma is maple off the top. Roasted grains, coffee and a slight smoky note follow.
The maple hits the tongue first. Sweet, but not off-putting. Dark coffee, roasted cereals. A very mild smoky quality lands on the finish, but to call it bacon-y would be a stretch.
Thick, almost syrupy. Appropriate for the style.
This is a nice pastry/breakfast stout from Blood Brothers. The sweetness isn’t over the top and the ‘bacon’ is very subtle. I enjoyed it.

Imperial Stout

Second mystery beer for the day, courtesy of Peter. This has a monster ABV. I will assume it is probably an imperial stout or barleywine. Opening the can, I see it is jet black. Now I am narrowing my guess to Imperial Stout. The temperature is around 46 degrees and served in a tulip glass. A frothy and creamy medium brown head was created. Quick retention left no lacing on the glass. The color is SRM 35, dark used motor oil.
Nosing the beer, I immediately pick up on signs that it could be a barrel-aged beer. However, an odd soy sauce, campfire smoke, and dark roast persist. I am not getting a barrel age note; scratch that idea. Other aromas I am detecting are chocolate, coffee, bready, and molasses. Every time I swirl the glass, the smell changes.
My final guess is an imperial stout. The beer is laden with dark roasted malts, chocolate, molasses, raisins, vanilla, caramel, oak, a hint of earthiness, a skosh of soy sauce, and a campfire.
The mouthfeel is sticky and thick, finishing smooth. Heavy body and low carbonation.
The beer is either a milk stout, BA Imperial Stout, or a chewy stout. I need to find out what this beast is. Maple Bacon Imperial Stout. The soy sauce and campfire smoke make sense. I did not get the maple; it was perceived as vanilla. Killer beer, super thick, Chewy, and delightful. I loved this beer. I did not quite get the Maple bacon part, but close enough.

Can: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a large dark brown foamy head with good retention and light lacing. Aroma of black chocolate notes with some light smoky notes and light roasted notes. Taste is a nice mix of chocolate notes with some residual sugar and hints of smoke and lightly salt notes. Body is full with nice creamy notes and good carbonation with no apparent alcohol notes.
