All the rage of the 90s California captured in an imperial IPA. Brewed with the pillars of the new world of hops at that time - Columbus, Centennial, Cascade, Amarillo, and Citra. Each hop adds to the thickness of the wave of bitterness, that crashes upon a mountain of lightly caramelised malts. The epic landscape fades slowly into warmth.

Pours a cloudy, deep, reddish mahogany coloration with a medium, creamy, lasting head. Smells of bready, quite caramelly malt and citrus, resinous and earthy hops, with hints of grapefruit and pine coming through. Taste is a great balance of bready, caramel malt and fruity, earthy, herbal and slightly floral and resinous hops, with citrus notes of grapefruit and tangerine, as well as some pine and strong earthy accents lingering in the aftertaste. Finishes with a strong bitterness and some grapefruit and earthy, herbal accents and pine lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
This makes for a proper old-school East Coast IPA with a very strong caramel malt backbone and bitter, earthy, herbal and resinous hops, with some fruity, zesty citrus accents as well. The caramel malt sweetness is balanced very well by the strong hop bitterness and I really like the focus on earthy, herbal, resinous hops here, with the zesty citrus accents adding a great, refreshing quality to this. Yet another great beer from this obscure to me Latvian brewery that I've really enjoyed every beer I tried from. Good to know that the place I got these from has a whole bunch more wild and barrel-aged brews in stock that I can't wait to pick up.
