The beer evacuates the 12-ounce brown bottle and ends up in my glass for a short stay, the color black as pitch, the head is majestic in size and semi-creamy texture as it decomposes the residual lace forms a thick and sticky sheet to obfuscate the glass. Nose has the distinct aroma of roasted and toasted grain, sweet at the back with the start rich in malt and sweet with the top medium in its feel upon the palate. Finish is fair to middling in acidity, the hops dynamic in their spicy bite; aftertaste is quite dry and long lasting a excellent representative to the style.

This is a nice dark porter, as all good porters should be. The smell was a little sweet and had a nice brown head. Smelled fresh. The flavor was definetly robust and the mouthfeel was smooth. (so it's not just a catchy name) Had a good malt flavor. I thought it was very good. It was the 1st beer I purchased a case of after having just one. I highly recommend it!

Looks good so far – poured a very rich deep ruby brown color. Tan-ish colored head started big, but settled down after a few sips. Big rich chocolate bouquet and raisins. Let’s call it a raisinet aroma. Fruity and roasty. The smell is inviting. Sticky sweetness in the taste. Nice roasted bitter flavors. Some caramel, some toffee. I can smell the alcohol in there, too. I like this porter a lot. It’s earthy and flavorful and sticks to your bones. Well done.

A very nice porter that is quite mellow and tasty to drink. Pours a very nice deep mahogany with a huge dark tan head. The head dissipates rather quickly but continues to create some lacing down the glass. A nice flavor from the roasted malts predominates and is carefully balanced by some hop bitterness. Not particularly aromatic the beer does give off some nice malty nose with a bit of caramel. A nice offering from Crooked River.

A dark brown/slight black with a prevelant copper hue is poured with a finger wide tuape colored head on top. Taste is robust, self explainatory of the style and bittersweet. Flavor carried graces of dark chocolate and the afterbite of a roasted coffee. With a pinch of hops and well balanced flavor this beer unarguably has good taste. A very aromatic beer. Its fragerance was the first quality I noted about this brew and one of its strongpoints. Smell was in the front of the nose with mellow and mild coffee-like scents. I agree with the BA who wrote the review before--Body was a tad thin. Flavor was not comprimised by this making this a very drinkable porter.

Crooked River's Robust Porter (which, if you look at the label alone, could easily be mistaken for Crooked River ESB, which looks almost exactly the same as Crooked River Kolsch...) emerges from the bottle black. Against a 100 watt ceiling bulb (behind frosted glass) the color is clearly brown, with some reddish hues... The head is tight and tiny-bubbled, lacing a little and lasting for a long time, though only in a VERY thin strip across the top of the beer. The aroma is heavenly--rich, caramelized apples/pears and dark toffee mingle with some spicy hoppiness and a touch of alcohol to smell vaguely of spiked fruit cake. I'm also reminded of a cold, sweet, alcoholic coffee drink...

The medium-thin body is a bit cold and metallic on both the start and the finish, though in between, a cool, roasty, burnt-toast-with-apple-jelly flavor is quite appealing. Hops make their presence known briefly and subtly after the metallic flavor recedes a bit. Then the hops retreat again and the flavor of aluminum foil in the mouth re-emerges. It's almost like eating a big bite of a Nestle Chocolate bar, or a Hershey's kiss, only to find that after you've chewed it all up, there's a piece of aluminum foil stuck in your teeth that's overwhelming the sweet aftertaste. I know this doesn’t sound so great, but honestly, it's not too bad.

The mouthfeel was a little thin for me and the malt flavor didn't live up to the aroma, but still, this was a solid beer from what I'm understanding is a very solid brewery.

This is an excellent Porter. It has a great nose and a lacey tan head that lasts throughout the entire beer. The mouthfeel is quite bitter, however there are some very sweet undertones. As you move through the beer there seems to be a lot of chocolate and coffee flavors. It finishes with a bit of a metallic taste but I still love this beer. At 5.63% ABV, this is a drinkable porter that seems to keep me coming back for more.

Pours a deep brown with thick tan head. Smell is a licorice fruity mix. The taste is a deep semi-fruity-sweet and finishes with a malty, licorice aftertaste. Some beers have the ability to provide certain taste sensations that are different from start to finish. This seems to be somewhat of a "static" taste. Does this make sense at all? It does seem to start with a lighter mouthfeel and finish a bit heavier.
As a sidenote, I mixed it with the Kolsch for a great black and tan.

Hard to top the ESB but this one made a good run. Pours an oily brown with a thin beige head. Weak coffee aroma. Seemed diluted somehow and really did not have the body I was expecting. Enjoyment diminished by the end of the glass but still not too bad overall.

Black in color with a nice brown head and good lasting carbonation. Strong roasty aroma and flavor with light chocolate and hop tones in both aroma and flavor. A delicious example of a Robust Porter - certainly robust and creamy with a Med body (leans full).

A standard to judge others - one of my top choices for a strong porter !

Very little difference between the ones brewed in OH and the ones brewed at Frederick in MD -- both deliciously strong.

The beer has that classic Porter look, Dark, black with a nice soft tan fluff head. Smell hints of dark chocolate. The taste is very malty at first. The beer leaves the the mouth dry and hop - bitter. Infact bitter overtakes the aftertaste. I expected alittle more, its about average.

Very nice appearance. Opaque black with just a tiny cherry highlight when held to the light. A thick, light-tan head holds well, but eventually drops to a thin, whispy surface covering and thin collar, leaving only a small amount of lace. The aroma is sweetly chocolatey with some soft coffee notes. The body is light-medium with a moderate carbonation level. The flavor offers a big roasty chocolate note upfront with a light touch of acidity from the dark malts, mellowing into some more malty caramel notes as it crosses the palate, and finishing with a light flash of hop flavor. There's some lingering bitter roastiness that welcomes you to continue tasting. Well balanced. A nice beer overall, without any flaws, but without any outstanding characteristics either. Still quite enjoyable.

Intense roasted malt flavors upfront, finishes with a dryish hop bitterness. A fine example of the style.

Advertised as triple hopped. Nice rich color with somewhat oily appearance. Roasted aroma at front, with a rich, hoppy middle. The beer fell apart at the finish with a stale, off flavor. The bottle was a little past shelf life, but that should not account for the off flavor and poor finish.
