Hell’s Hollow is now advertised as a Baltic Porter at 7.34%. It’s color is light for a porter, but understandably so as with a lager based Baltic. Their is no lasting head after the poor, but at the same time it is not stale by any means. Nothing stands out in the scent, which is surprising as their is a lambic taste to the first note. Makes me think there is a blend of new hops added to the traditional old hop that Baltics are known for. The taste changes quickly from a bitter to chocolatey malt, but still light enough to identify the lager characteristic that is expected. The lager finishes quickly, and the flavor disappears almost entirely. There is no discriminating after taste, the feel during the taste is definitely more lager than porter as the chocolate dissipates. Good beer with a hamburger if you like darker styles, but at the same time it is completes as a lager. I think I would prefer to have either a good porter or smooth lager, but for what it is designed to accomplish it is a decent brew.
