Speed Wobble pours a deep ruby red with a creamy beige head. Flaked rye adds a smooth body, as well as a rich spicy, earthy character to support the dark fruit and toasted toffee of the Special B malt. In Speed Wobble the hops take on the role of supporting cast member, giving notes of pine, citrus and an earthy quality that provide balance and poise to the big, malty body. Speed Wobble may push your taste buds to the limit, don’t be daunted though, relax and enjoy!

Pours burnt orange in colour with a frothy head on top. The smell is sweet and boozy, amazingly the booze doesn’t come through in the taste, only the smell. The taste is complex, I detect toffee, candy, metallic, biscuit, molasses and lots of bitterness from the hops. I thoroughly enjoyed this one

Speed Wobble is kind of a silly name for a beer that looks like it should be taken seriously; deep amber in colour, it has a thick head with an off-white, almost beige stain that leaves a terribly messy lacing. Intimidation is abated, however, by brilliant clarity and soft auburn highlights.
It's not hard to believe this recipe was inspired by Stone Brewing's iconic and style-originating Arrogant Bastard - things kick off with a crudely earthy aroma rich in pine and citrus, with toffee-ish and toasted candied nuts found somewhere beneath all that herbal pungency.
However, despite the use of flaked rye and a good amount of Special B malt, this flavour doesn't "push your taste buds to the limits". It's got more character than your standard amber ale - and at 6.7% more alcohol too - but it doesn't quite have the 'chutzpah' to be considered a proper American Strong.
A dark malt bill is significant to the style but audacious hoppiness defines it. This has the right brand of piny, resinous bitterness but not quite enough of it; a surprising amount of sweet caramel taste survives the 62 IBU onslaught. American Strong Ales are built like V8 engines and this is more of a 4-valve.
Speed Wobble needs more gas. It's a more adventurous offering, to be sure, but doesn't veer too far off course. Like many new Canadian microbreweries Redline is doing good by introducing new consumers to bolder, more modern American style craft beer but they aren't excelling at it, at least not yet.
