Born in America but with a soul recalling a distant English ancestry, Tanglefoot is one of the flagship India Pale Ales from the Royal Docks Brewing Company. Tanglefoot is an American IPA in that it is a decidedly hoppier cousin to the historical British beers from which the style’s name is borrowed. The beer features a piney and resinous nose with a pleasant, rounded bitterness from healthy doses of American Nugget, Cascade and Mosaic hops. Tanglefoot reveals its storied English heritage as it offsets the massive hop charge with a full bodied palate and sturdy malt backbone thanks to the British-grown, floor-malted Maris Otter and Harrington barley; prized throughout the world for their superior flavour and aromatics.
The Tanglefoot Legend:
The 12th Century poet and priest, La3amon was the first to chronicle the Arturian tradition. He is also the source of the legend of Pendragon’s ales.

I got a 6pck of this from my local Kroger. It poured a slightly hazy orangish with white head that is not leaving much lace. The scent had ripe dank fruit notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with sweet fruit start and bitter citrus finish. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall its a decent beer.

12 ounce can, canned on 01.19.18. Served in a DFH Spiegelau IPA glass, the beer pours a slightly hazy reddish/copper color with about an inch off-white head that stuck around for a while. There's also a good amount of lacing. I like the aroma, the brew smells like caramel malt, stone fruit, and piney/earthy hops. Taste is similar to the aroma, with caramel and bready malt, stone fruit, pine/earthy hops, candied orange and melon flavors. Nice mix of hops and malt here. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's slick, creamy and smooth with a good amount of carbonation. I think it's a good red IPA, you'll probably like it more if you're into the English style IPA's (which I do like). I know I want to try this again in the future. This was my first Royal Docks brew and hopefully it won't be my last! $1.99 for a single can.

12 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 11/25/2017. Pours slightly hazy medium orange/amber/light copper color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, apricot, mango, melon, lemon zest, orange peel, light pepper/pine, caramel, toasted biscuit, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/earthy hops and moderate dark/bready malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, apricot, mango, melon, lemon zest, orange peel, light pepper, pine, caramel, toasted biscuit, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel, peppery, grassy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, apricot, mango, melon, lemon/orange peel, pepper, pine, caramel, toasted biscuit, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/earthy hops and moderate dark/bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero lingering hop astringency after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/grainy/sticky, and slightly resinous balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol for 6.8%. Overall this is a very good IPA. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/earthy hops and moderate dark/bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the modestly bitter/drying finish. Great mix of juicy, dank, and earthy hop complexity; sizable English malt backbone, but not overly sweet/heavy feeling. Very Midwest style as I expected. A very enjoyable offering.

This pours a dark golden color with little head. The aroma is hoppy and funky. The taste is bitter with just a bit of malt coming through. The aftertaste and burp are good - the best part.
This is an unassuming, not very ambitious AIPA that succeeds in refreshing nicely. Recommended for a more old school AIPA (not overly dry and hoppy).

Tanglefoot | Royal Docks Brewing Company. Poured from the can into a pint glass, this has a three finger thick off-white head, webbed lacing, and a deep copper amber body.
I smell "catty" citrus and pungent pine hops with a Townhouse cracker malt base.
Tastes like an "ahhh"-inducing bitter, juicy and FRESH IPA. Not much else to elaborate on.
Medium mouthfeel with mild carbonation.
Overall, I'll choose to give Tanglefoot | Royal Docks Brewing Company a 4.5. I'd have to say this is one of, if not, THE freshest IPA's I've had the opportunity to enjoy.

Tanglefoot brewed by Royal Docks Brewing Company, with an ABV of 6.80%. This IPA pours out a light brown color with a nice white head. The Color is definitely a a darker IPA, not saying that is a bad thing. There fair amount of lacing to this IPA. The smell is rich with hop bitterness, earthly grains and malts. Now for the taste, it is bold with flavors. You pick up on a nice mild hop bitterness and a nice smoothness of grains and malts. You also pick up a slight sweetness in the taste of this brew. There is a lot going on in this American IPA. The body of Tanglefoot is a soild medium. I can't get over how smooth this American IPA goes down. It is really hard to pick up on the 6.80% ABV in this brew. This is one of the more milder IPA's I I have had. However it is really enjoyable to drink. Theuth feel of this American IPA is Bold, Hoppy, Clean, Smooth, and Refreshing. Overall I'm giving Tanglefoot a 4.50 out of 5. I would definitely look this brew up again givin the chance to. Royal Docks Brewing Company, did a super nice job with this brew. If you are looking for a milder IPA look this brew up.
