2018 GOLD - Great American Beer Festival
Legend has it that King Arthur's father, Uther Pendragon, possessed two magical ales. One of those ales was "wrought in Avalon" to refresh his warriors' spirits and imbue them with the courage of a red dragon. This light-bodied, refreshing ale is gently spiced with herbs and spices native to the Welsh countryside as our homage to that legendary ale.

Had this on tap a couple times at the Nine Inch Nails concert in Cuyahoga Falls and was pleasantly surprised. Definitely tastes like a witbier but the new (old) spices were a nice change. I'd like to get more.

16 ounce can, canned on 22.05.10, guessing it's Year/Month/Day but I don't know for sure. Label says 5.95 ABV. Served in a Royal Docks Pendragon glass (looks similar to a stange glass), the beer pours a slightly hazy gold color with about an inch or so white head. Head retention and lacing are both good. I like the aroma a lot, there's a lot of sweet spiciness and it smells like coriander, orange peel/citrus, wheat/grainy malt, red apple and pear. Taste is pretty much like the aroma but with the addition of some peppery spice, herbal and grassy flavors. Mouthfeel/body is light/medium, it's a bit coating and an easy drinking brew with a good amount of carbonation. I liked this one, wish I would have bought more than just this one can! Purchased as a single from Weiland's.

Great big citrus and spice aroma, pours a hazy straw with almost no head. Light body, with a clean touch of wheat, and a bright citrus and spice note. The citrus tends towards lemon, and the spice to coriander. Quite a good summer sipping beer.

Look: Orange/gold with a white head that dissipated quickly to lacing. Medium to small individual bubbles. Canned 4.4.18 and tasted on 10.20.18 and unfortunately there was some sediment in the bottom. Giant Eagle shelf, may have been periodically warmed and cooled in the sun.
Smell: like a candy orange or some kind of fruit slice... sweet. Yeasty on the nose too. Slightly toasty.
Taste: Not quite as candy like as the smell, but still sweet and yeasty with plenty of breadiness, spicy and earthy
Feel: Medium body, thick carbonation yet overall soft. Goes down easy.
Overall: Interesting beer. Would probably get again.

12 ounce can into pint glass, best before 9/25/2017. Pours moderate hazy/cloudy pale golden/yellow color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of lemon, orange zest, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, coriander, peppercorn, clove, pear, apple, wheat, cracker, white bread dough, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/earthy yeast, spices, and pale malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of lemon, orange zest, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, coriander, peppercorn, clove, pear, apple, wheat, cracker, white bread dough, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate peppery yeast spiciness, herbal/grassy bitterness; and light wheat tang/tartness on the finish. Lingering notes of lemon, orange zest, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, coriander, peppercorn, clove, pear, apple, wheat, cracker, white bread dough, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/earthy yeast, spices, and pale malt flavors; with a great malt/bitter/spiciness balance, and zero astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from bitter/spiciness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy, and fairly sticky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5.3%; touch of increasing ginger spice heat through the glass. Overall this is a very good witbier. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/earthy yeast, spices, and pale malt flavors; very smooth and refreshing to drink with the mellowly bitter/spicy/drying finish. Very well balanced spices, yeast, malts. Nothing overpowering or feels out of place. A very unique and enjoyable offering. Nice style example, even with the unique spice profile.

In nearly a scandinavian styled gruit and mead fashion, Royal Docks sets out to capture a taste of King Aurthur folklore in an ale that represents all things Welsh.
Pendragon is a sweet and spicy ale that pours with a hazy golden hue and crowned with a creamy white froth. Its aromas are rich with floral honey, lavender and Christmas types of spice. Angel food cake, honey and pastries come to mind as the first sweet sip teases the tip of the tongue.
With the malts holding serve, the unwavering ale starts to balance its earthen sweetness soon counters with the spice medley that seems of ginger, nutmeg and cinnamon for a holiday of sensation, or nightmares about that yankee candle company. Modestly bitter, an herbal presence of incense, sassafras and a sprucy gin-like spice decorates the finish without impeding the focus of the sweet grains.
Medium full and approaching a light cloying action on the finish, the malty sweet beer finishes with a curiously drinkable culmination of baklava. It's a perfect complement to spicy asian dishes that need the sweetness to balance the chilies but with enough brightness to resonate with another collection of herbs and spices.

From the 12 oz can in a snifter via Buehlers in Wooster Ohio. This odd little
ale pours a pale golden with a thin head of white fading foam that settles
to a thin ring. Nose reminiscent of a few hibiscus ales I have tried with other
subtle notes of spices and sweet malts. Flavors follow the nose with a slightly
more interesting note showcasing floral notes and light soft wheat elements
sweetened with what almost tastes like pomegranate juice mixed with ginger.
Decent mouth feel; medium light body, low carbonation with a zesty floral and ginger
laced finish.
Overall, this is one odd little ale but interesting to try once.....or in my case more than
once since I bought a six pack while on vacation.
Cheers
