Inspired by the American IPA’s of the pre-Prohibition era and made with ingredients and techniques common to those long-ago brews, Leatherhead IPA is brewed only a few miles from the field where pro football was first played in Canton, Ohio. It is a stiff reminder of what it meant to be a Gridiron Ace – leather clad & iron-willed; playing for the love of the game ad drinking beer with backbone.

16 FLUID OUNCE can
Served in a Cleveland Browns pint glass
This beer pours a brilliant amber hue. It is topped with an inch of beige head that leaves decent lacing.
Caramel malt aroma with pine and citrus
Earthy and citrus flavors. Light malt flavor. It gets bitter on the backend with lingering resinous bitterness.
Medium bodied with a slick mouthfeel
Nice old school IPA. Clean

16oz can. Poured out a clear, golden color with a small, white head of foam. It smelled of pine, citrus and toasted caramel. Malty with caramel and toffee with a piney bitter bite.

They changed this beer. It used to be a dark amber color, with an amazing smell and taste. Now, it is a very bland, light beer. Nothing special. I mean, how can you put a completely different beer in the same can.
I think Royal Docks has no idea what they are doing. They accidentally made a good beer with the last batch called Leatherhead.

L: A deep amber color with lots of medium-dark orange hues, it grows a creamy tan head that takes to time drop to a thick layer that sticks well.
S: The aroma pops, solid hops presence more herbal than anything, lots of spicy flora with a bit of bite. A little malty sweetness peeks out for balance, pretty doughy with interesting notes of both sugar cookie and sourdough.
T: The hoppiness is definitely there, though it perhaps doesn't pop as much as in the aroma, but it's just as herbal. There is an unexpected note of bittersweet chocolate running underneath along with a caramel / doughy malt.
F: It's crisp and moderately smooth in a bubbly body that holds fairly well, fading off slightly at the end.

Canned on 3/14/18. 12oz can poured into a tulip. Pours amber with great clarity and transparency; small off-white head that fades leaving solid retention and lacing. The aromas are malt forward along with some caramel. Some subtle hints of citrus. The flavors are clean and crisp. Hints of watermelon. Caramel is there along with some hints of cocoa. Moderate to low bitterness. Malts do their thing. Finishes dry for the most part. Alcohol goes unnoticed. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied with moderate to active carbonation. It's smooth and easy to drink.
This is a unique IPA. It's not flashy, but they didn't intend for it to be. They say it's an IPA inspired by the "pre-Prohibition era", which makes sense. It also kind of has a "Red IPA" vibe going on. It's not bad and is actually growing on me. It's enjoyable and fun to drink. I like it and it might be better than my "numerical score" might indicate.
