Hazy light brown chocolate color with a nice light brown head, light carbonation, and lace. Malty chocolate-ish aroma and flavor (more than likely due to age) with a slightly harsh aftertaste; almost bittersweet chocolate but not quite. Medium bodied and smooth.

(old - a year and a half maybe...)

This brew pours into a dark amber color with head that disappears quickly. The aroma is that of dark malt and floral oak. The medium body supports a bold bready sweet malt flavor and strong bitter notes throughout. The overall impression is that of a heavily flavored smooth brew

This beer poured out a very deep red color with a slightly darker cream head. An aroma of malt and other smells. It had a very sweet taste to it, not normally found in most red ales that I have tried. A little heavier body than most reds. Better than some of their others, but maybe it's because they were less cute.

Deep ruby color, clear. Yellow, medium-bodied head, decent retention but just a trace after one minute. Spicy nutmeg aroma, a little trace of maple. Medium-coating mouthfeel, sweet malts that are somewhat similar to brown sugar/cinammon filling. Minimal hops. A little thick in the back of the throat. Actually a pleasant brew overall, a little more like a Bock than an Ale in taste. Needs more hop balance. Probably the best beer from Berger in my opinion.

deep cloudy ruby colored, aroma of earthy hops and caramel malts. taste again is too sweet and out of balance, thin mouthfeel adds to the malty/syrupy slickness. no head and little carbonation.

Primarily malt aroma with a sweet quality. Slight background of hops. Nice steady low head. Pleasant amber color with strong red hues, and clear. Flavor is predominantly malt start to finish. Hard water noticable. Hops is in the dryness with an almost puckering quality, yet finish is rather short. Plenty of carbonation gives a fuller mouthfeel. Not as smooth as many red ales.

A little too tart with a bittersweet finish.
