Formerly Black Velvet Ale
Imperial black ale meets oatmeal porter. Silky smooth chocolate dominates the palate throughout this beer. Have it for breakfast or have it for dessert, it doesn’t matter. This beer drinks very easy for an 8.2% ABV beer.

I got a can of this beer from my Brother in law for my birthday. It poured an opaque dark with thin ecru head that is not leaving much lace. The scent had dark malt and hints of roast and cocoa. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with sweet dark chocolate malt with coffee highlights. The mouthfeel was medium in body with good carbonation. Overall its a solid beer.

12 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 2/12/2020. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 1 finger fairly dense and fluffy khaki head with solid retention, that reduces to a minimal spotty lace cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, roasted nuts, toasted biscuit, and dark/brown bread/crust; with lighter notes of licorice, molasses, raisin, fig, date, smoke, char, wood, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malts and light earthy hop/fruity yeast notes; with big strength. Taste of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, roasted nuts, toasted biscuit, and dark/brown bread/crust; with lighter notes of licorice, molasses, raisin, fig, date, smoke, char, wood, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Mild herbal, woody, grassy, peppery, roast, charred bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, roasted nuts, toasted biscuit, dark/brown bread/crust, licorice, molasses, dark fruit, smoke, char, wood, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; with an awesome roast/hop bitter/sweet balance; and no cloying/acrid/astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering hop/char bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/velvety/bready, and lightly slick/sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 8.2%. Overall this is an awesome imperial porter. All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; very smooth and easy to drink for the ABV, with the mellowly bitter/charred/drying finish; great soft/silky feel. Awesome well rounded rich malts/oat complexity; with solid earthy hops and restrained fruity yeast. Light residual sweetness with lingering hop/char dryness. A really enjoyable offering, and outstanding style example. Leaning to an English style, but not too strong.

Velvet Villian Ale has a nice, dark, and creamy appearance to it. The taste is very well rich and full bodied in the mouth. The taste reminds me a mocha coffee with the dark chocolate notes and a background of coffee in it.

Coffee check. Smooth check. Heavy duty beer with a smooth taste that’ll cause you to forget it is 8.2. Has a bit too much bitterness for my liking but will be fine b

Nice, easy to drink and enjoy porter that surprised me with how light it tasted. Nice deep dark brown color with some mild tan head and very spotty lingering lacing. Smells of medium roast coffee and milk chocolate. Tastes similarly, along with some vanilla, caramel, brown sugar and roasted nuttiness that balanced some malt and toast notes. Smooth mild mouthfeel, slightly creamy. Good carbonation.

Pours a dark brown with a foamy white head that disappears quickly. Aroma is coffee and chocolate. Tastes of sweet coffee with a mild hoppy bitterness. After taste of chocolate. Good mouth feel.
