Pours a very clear dark straw, fluffy white head. Aroma of a wild ale, oak, white wine, citrus feel, and very deep down, coffee, but I doubt I would have picked up on it without the label. Taste dominated by the barrel, and that's not a bad thing; finish is a bit off, however, as there is a bit of flat, raw bitterness that cuts through an otherwise rounded beer.

A: Light fruity coffee aroma coupled with light tartness.
A: Deep orange color, with a light yellow hue, hazy, with a moderate uniform white head that has adequate retention.
T: Moderate fruit coffee flavors, followed by a light lingering tartness with an odd green pepper like spice note on the finish.
M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.
O: Alright; the beer has a great coffee aroma that compliments the tartness well. However, the beer finishes with an odd green pepper like flavor that clashes with the rest of the fruit and sour flavors and greatly distracts from the beer.

This is actually an extraordinary effort from Libertine - one of the best I've had. Lightly hazy yellow color with pure white foamy head; Nose of light fruited coffee; maybe! You have to really look for the coffee in the nose and mouth. Truth be known, this is one of the best California wild ales I've had. Unfortunately, the fact that they apparently made it with coffee forces me to downgrade it since there is little coffee character, nose or flavor - anywhere. But, I have to tell you, this is an amazingly good, lightly tart, fruity and acidic wild ale. It is juicy, appealing and really drinkable. In fact, if it was not labeled "coffee" this would almost be a 5!
