a really cool beer here, imperial gose type barrel aged with grenache grapes in it. i am really starting to like these guys a lot, once i got over the absurd price points and started getting into their beers that is. this pours an almost still looking washed out pinkish orange color, some viscosity and a nice soft color, but visually unremarkable really. the grape influence is enormous, as this has a very vinous nose to it, not sure what kind of barrels this was aged in, but i would guess red wine, it has that berry and tart grape skin character, and whats more, is that it has an actual wine fermentation profile, some sharpness, tannins, astringency, and oak to it, as much wine in the nose to me as it is beer, but i can appreciate the lactic tartness and the salt for sure, as well as a dry but fuller wheat base. the flavor is equally wine forward, the grapes add a ton of flavor and texture without making it sweet, impressive! i love the almost gritty thing thats happening here, and there is a cool symbiotic back and forth between the fruit and the salt. not all lacto either it doesnt seem, some mature bretty funk to this, albeit behind the acidic elements, its a nice touch. a very complete beer that doesnt drink nearly as strong as it is and uses grapes in a really cool way. loved it!
