This is truly a weird beer--mostly for the good. It doesn't super appealing, coming out with not much of a head and an opaque brown color. It smells like a very boozy red wine, and tastes a bit like it too. The maple really comes out in the back, as the beer loses its more grape-inspired and gamy taste. It is carbonated more like sparkling wine than beer, with smaller bubbles of carbon dioxide. I'd recommend this beer to a wine afficianado looking for beer or someone looking to be adventurous in the winter months. Probably will not seek it out again, but it at least signifies that Libertine is a brewery that is willing to take risks and execute them well.
