On draught at the brewery. Served in a snulip glass. It pours a very dark ruby-brown color with a creamy, light khaki cap and a thin sheen of lacing. It's an attractive pour. On the nose there is roasted malt, tobacco, earthy char, cinnamon, and just a whiff of pumpkin. The pumpkin taste is quite understated, although it becomes more apparent as the glass warms. It also features a lot of spice; the allspice, clove, and cinnamon are in the forefront. But what really sets this ale apart is the use of molasses. It adds subtle sweetness but also ties together the other flavors. The mouth feel is rich and creamy with moderate carbonation, and the 7.1% ABV gives it good substance. Overall, this is not your run-of-the-mill Pumpkin Ale. It isn't overly sweet, or pumpkin-forward, and the spicing is nice. But the use of molasses makes it. It's a pleasure to drink.
