I picked up a can of Ellison's Spatial Disturbance last week for $2.79 at The Lager Mill. This brewery seems to have some skills when it comes to IPA's and I'm interested to see how this one will turn out, so lets see how it goes. 2017 Vintage. Poured from a tall 16oz can into an IPA glass.
A- the can looks just ok, it's fairly plain and not too eye catching. It poured a cloudy dark orange color which takes on a slightly lighter and brighter hue when held to the light with a little over a fingers worth of creamy white head that left a little bit of spotty lacing behind and it died down to a thin ring that stayed till the end. This is a pretty nice looking DIPA, I have no complaints.
S- The aroma starts off with a higher amount of medium sweetness with the hops being the first to show up and they impart a fruity aromas being the first to show up and it imparts some citrus rind, grape fruit. light mango and light pineapple like aroma with the green hops showing up almost as much as the fruits in the background and there's a little big floral hops too. Up next comes some doughy yeast with a noticeable but light alcohol aroma and it's followed by the malts which impart some pale malt. bread, light caramel malt and sweet malt like aroma. This beer has a pretty nice aroma, I like the balance, between the malts and the hops, but I wish the green hops were toned down.
T- The taste seems to be pretty similar to the aroma and it starts off with a higher amount of medium sweetness with the hops still being the first to show up and they impart the exact same aspects that they did in the aroma with the the green hops and the fruits hops sticking out an even amount and the floral hops are on the lighter side and they show in the background. Up next comes a little bit of doughy yeast that's followed by a little bit of noticeable alcohol and that leads into the malts which are a good amount lighter than they were in the aroma, but they still impart all the same aspects. On the finish there's a higher amount of medium sweetness that lingers a little and it had a fruity hip and green hop like aftertaste. This is a nice tasting beer, but I thought the hop profile would be better if less green hops showed up and I wisht he malts showed up just a little more to bring some balance to this beer.
M- A little smooth, not too overly bitter, the alcohol is fairly well hidden, a little creamy, not to crisp, on the thicker side of being medium with a lower amount of medium carbonation. The mouthfeel is nice, but I wish it was smoother.
Overall I thought this was a nice beer and a solid example of the style, it wasn't bad, but it's not on the same level as some of the other IPA's that I've had from this brewery. This beer had ok drinkability, one is enough for me, more than that and it would start to ware on me. What I like the most about this beer is the appearance and aroma, to me those were the highlights of this beer. What I like the least about this beer is the taste, I wish the hops were lee green hop like and I wish the malts show up a little more to provide some balance. I don't think I would buy this beer again, but I wouldn't turn one down and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a DIPA that has more dominating green hop flavors. All in ll I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it and I think it wil need a good amount of work to get on the same level as their other IPA's. It's now my least favorite IPA from this brewery and it;s an average example of the style at best. Solid job guys, but this one has some room for improvement.

16oz can, served in a willi becher glass. Pours a darker orange-copper body, cloudy with a one finger white head and lots of lacing. Average retention. Smell is caramel and resin, pith and sugar, a bit of grapefruit and pine. Flavour is grapefruit, caramel, toffee, molasses, pine and a bit of citrus zest. Drinks sort of more like a very hoppy barleywine, the malt is fairly heavy tasting here. Moderate pine bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium-lighter bodied, moderate bitterness, good carbonation and body.
