I enjoyed a few pints of this beer one night in the Hebridies Bar in Edinburgh (it is a small bar at the back of Waverly Train station if anyone is interested).
It poured a nice bronzey-brownish colour with a suitably creamy off white head. However I do not remember anything distinctive from the nose, a very bland smell.
The taste was a nice hoppy and nutty, without too many overpowering flavours, which did leave it slightly bland, but still very drinkable. A nice thick mouthfeel, without any added fizz and a good bitter aftertaste which was very pleasant. The Drinkablity was also high, had one pint and that convinced me to stay on it all night, although it did feel a bit heavy on the stomach the next day, more so than most beers of this type.
I would drink it again, but I doubt I will see it as it has proved to be very difficult to get. Worth a try, but don't expect great things.

500ml bottle ( brewed under licence by Belhaven)
Chesnut brown in colour with a massive frothy off white head.
Very malty in aroma with a buttery/creamy aspect..slight nuttiness.
In taste its a straight forward Scottish beer. malty as a whole..with some nuttiness and a small hop "zing".
Very nice and easy on the palate.
This is less sweet than many Scottish beers thus its drinkability is helped.

Once again a peaty maltyness. Very soggy aswell, and sticky, extremely boring, flat, and uninspiring. I had two Maclay beers tonight, and both were as boring as anything i've ever had, sticky, reminded me of wychwood beers, but with a notable maltyness, too sticky, too annoying, who imports these beers into Australia? surely they can get something better? bloody hell.

Solid, heavy body. Spicy hops. Gets in your face and smacks you around a little.
