This craft beer is a hybrid of three traditional styles of craft beer, featuring a Vienna lager malt bill, ale yeast, and tiny amount of hops, balanced to be appealing to every palate.

Departed Soles Brewing Co. "Light Rail Ale"
on tap at the brewery, 1 April 2016
Notes: 5.2% ABV. "cali common". Hazy deep gold beneath a rocky white head. Limited aroma of sweet golden malt and floral hops. I'm not finding the edge of sulphur that usually accompanies a California common or "Steam beer". It's nicely balanced in the flavor, delivering malt upfront and then bitterness across the middle. It finishes with a dollop of sweet golden malt that dries shortly leaving floral hops behind. Not bad. A wise man once told me that when you go to sample the beers at a brewery try the blonde, or lager, or their lightest first - if they can do that right the others will be better, but the blonde is your true litmus test... and I'd say they've done well.
