Departed Soles Brewing Co. "Light Rail Root Beer Ale"
on tap at the brewery, 1 April 2016
Notes: 5.0% ABV - apparently "Light Rail Ale" with Root Beer extract added. Deep gold with orange highlights. Short thins head of white. Limited retention and lacing. Aroma of root beer and grainy malt. Flavor of a golden, malty/grainy beer with root beer and/or birch beer extract added in. It's sweetish, minty, malty... but there's also a touch of a solvent-like note going on (cheap extract?). I could take it or leave it, but in the tend I'd rather leave it. On the other hand my wife and the woman sitting near her chose it as their favorite, and it's not like my wife doesn't drink beer so go figure. SIGH ~ I'm not even sure of how to rate it. I guess in the end I felt the root beer was a little bit harsh, that it didn't blend in well enough with the beer, but maybe I'm wrong.
