Island Gurl is a Milkshape IPA with Mosaic, Citra, and El Dorado that was aged on Coconut. She is reminiscent of a hoppy pina colada!

This was the first beer that I ever reviewed from Departed Soles and I love how the can looks like one of those old-time postcards. I've had a few sips of some of their other offerings over the years while waiting in line at Other Half and like this, this was easily enjoyable and true to stylistic form.

The pour was cloudy, golden, and had just a bit of sediment at the bottom of the liquid. Plenty of head topped it off although the lacing that remained left something to be desired. Loads of coconut, dank hops, vanilla cream, and tangy citrus in the nose but the combination of those didn't mesh together perfectly. The taste was full of tropical notes, pina colada mix, and overripe fruit rind but once again, there just seemed to be something missing from this. It might have been the carbonation, as that could have been a bit more abundant, or the booze...

...as that was hardly anywhere to be found with the exception of the dank, dewy aftertaste that emerged once I finally finished this off. The hops were in fine proportion to each other and there seemed to be some oats in the body but in the end, this was a session IPA that thought it was a milkshake IPA that was just an American Pale Ale at heart. No date on the bottom of the can but regardless of that, this was fine for a hot summer day such as any of the ones we've had lately!

hazy dark orange big frothy head
gushing with tropical aromas until the head leaves then it has a rather harsh smell with undertones of pineapple and coconut cream i get citra and el dorado
hints and tickles of sweet tropical taste but it's got a little sharp bitter orange pith bite that goes away when about halfway then the el dorado notes come thru
it has a lot of body for a session ale full creamy mouthfeel
not bad once it warmed up and i would have another but i only copped a single

This one is pretty tasty. The smell is tropical fruit, banana, coconut. The taste is smooth with a pretty full flavor for the 4.8% ABV. The coconut definitely adds a unique character.
