This is a gluten free beer according to the can. I always considered dark beer styles were best suited for gluten free brews. This one smells malty and nutty. Drinks like a nutty porter or brown ale. Not much in the way of coffee. The body is light. I'd say not a bad job for gluten free.

DATE: January 10, 2020... OCCASION: enjoying the Jeopardy all-time champions with Shan on a relaxing Friday... GLASSWARE: Lindemans stemmed tulip... the beer pours pitch black, sparkling with white bubbles that appear and disappear around the glass... its head bubbled up and flattened out almost immediately... yes, coffee strikes the aroma's keynote, with tootsie roll, peat, pear, grape, and toasted grains... a thin, light-bodied stout, slightly oily at the throat while faint at the teeth... nice and drinkable at 6% ABV... semi-sweet, warm, and grainy, the coffee bean subdued by the candied chocolate, plum, pear, and roasted oats... this may not rival the bigger, more robust coffee offerings, but this works well for a gluten-free palate, evoking enough of what is in malt to approximate its pleasure...
RERATE DUE TO RECENT PURCHASE...
DATE: April 23, 2025... OCCASION: Having gotten a hold of the Rick Rolled-Oat last week--after missing out on it the past three years--I was shocked by its mouthfeel and flavor, enough to do a rare (for me) rerating... Cavs/Heat Game 2 in the background for inspiration... GLASSWARE: nonick... this pours a thick, three-fingered dark tan head that crags and bubbles with activity, sitting atop a velvet-black body...the head sustains a finger's worth of froth... cocoa nibs, licorice, tootsie roll, charcoal, peat, vegetable, and candied sugars make this aromatic enough minus the malts... the mouthfeel is textured, active at the teeth, smooth on the tongue, and easy at the throat... the flavor is the big win here, with cocoa, coffee, tootsie roll, vanilla, cereal oats, and toffee create a flavor profile that blankets and provides a lengthy finish... the second time around, I got properly Rick Rolled this time around... stouts are nearly impossible to nail as GF products, but this is definitely worth enjoying if avoiding gluten--and doable even if you aren't...
