DATE: June 16, 2022... OCCASION: beginning the summer with the annual Running of the Rings... GLASSWARE: Abita pint... from an artfully rendered can pours an orange amber body sporting a single-fingered white, sudsy head that sizzles and fizzles to a sponge cake... it's built by slowly commiserating upward... strong citrus aroma--lemon, orange, pineapple, and apple mix with light resin and perfumed flowers... the millet doesn't show much here... engaging and alluring, rather big for its ABV... for a gluten-free offering, this has a smooth, medium-bodied feel, effervescent and vibrancy... it has a reasonable finish, but doesn't overstay its welcome... its flavor profile is true to its aroma, with appreciable citrus and pineapple early and pleasant resin late... its candied syrup helps it avoid the flat or blunted profiles of other GF attempts... this could be a go-to for GF drinkers who seek a pale ale that has some nuance to it... for non-GF drinkers, this could hold its own, though its lack of malt is rather obvious....

A: The beer is crystal clear golden yellow in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a short white head that quickly died down, leaving a thin collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of herbal and grassy hops are present in the nose along with what I presume to be millet or quinoa.
T: The taste follows the smell and has a somewhat "off" flavors from the malt bill, similar to what you get from sorghum in a gluten-free beer, except that there are some underlying hints of Belgian candi sugars. There is a light amount of bitterness.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and somewhat dry on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: The flavor of this beer takes a bit getting used to, but there's a nice dose of hop flavors and bitterness to provide contrast. The dryness in the finish is pleasant.
